Learning needs to be purposeful. Learning is about making a contribution. Learning occurs when the learner is “truly” engaged. Learning occurs in an environment built on strong relationships. Learning should be about innovation, generation of ideas, creation. Learning is not simply about the transfer of knowledge from one individual to another or control. Learning requires time to reflect, process, question to understanding, and grapple with complex ideas and content.

Introduce yourself and your role: ‘Good morning everyone, my name is Donna Choe and I’m currently a junior in the School of Education studying elementary education with a concentration in Language Arts. I’m from Queens, NY but have worked in several Ann Arbor Public Schools such as Mitchell, Pattengill, Bryant, and Scarlett and really enjoy working with children in both educational, professional and non-professional settings.” Thank the conference sponsors and explain SCECHs requirements. She has 27 years of classroom experience and 2 years serving at the district level to support technology integration and school improvement. Her most recent accomplishments include: participation in the Galileo Leadership Academy, earning an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, and organizing EdcampOU and Edcamp WBWL. Stephanie is an active blogger with a strong presence in Twitter educational learning networks and chats. Stephanie: I’d like to thank Donna for the introduction and for her support during this presentation. It’s great to see a young educator already taking an active role in professional development. Before going into specific outcomes, I wanted to take a few moments to explain the reason behind my choice to present for the 4T conference: First and foremost, I’m passionate about educational leadership, learning, and learner engagement which is what this conference is all about. and I also believe that technology integration, if done effectively, has the power and potential to transform the learning environments with a focus on: increasing student voice and choice, ownership and personalization of learning, and learner contributions. Session Goals: Why, How, and What of Technology Integration Understand the why or purpose of technology integration, guiding frameworks, and how to leverage technology to transform the learning environment Explore authentic examples of teachers and students integrating technology and how these fit into the technology frameworks Use the technology frameworks to analyze and develop a lesson demonstrating effective, engaging integration. Explore and Use Web 2.0 Tools to support Common Core State Standards Above and beyond the content I have three main goals for all of us, including myself: learning, reflection on professional practice and pedagogy, and making connections In order for this to occur, we’re going to go over some brief norms that will drive our work and thinking for the next hour.
