The project team downloaded over 800 MB of open data on violations from the NY government. They implemented the SDLC process to analyze the unstructured data using Apache Hadoop tools on a Hortonworks sandbox. Tables were created in HiveQL and the data was visualized using Tableau and Power BI. The visualizations showed violation types, issue dates, and departments. The analysis provided insights on how to better enforce regulations and manage violations in concentrated areas.
