MULTI-OPERATIONAL WORD
PROBLEMS
•Multi-operational word problems
are word problems that involve
MORE THAN ONE OPERATION.
HOW TO SOLVE?
•In solving Multi-operational Word Problems,
the key is to READ and UNDERSTAND the
problem carefully.
•You MAY ALSO DRAW the problem. That will
help a lot especially when finding out the
operations necessary, and formulating the
equation needed to solve the problem.
•ESA Method is also used in solving these
LET’S TRY!
At sir Rome’s house, there are 2
chicken, 3 dogs, and 5 cats.
What is the total number of legs
of those animals at sir Rome’s
house?
ESA METHOD
E: 2 × 2 + 3 × 4 + (5 × 4) = 𝑁
S:
A: 36 legs
LET’S TRY!
Kara bought 2 pieces of ribbon for
75 pesos each, 5 pieces of shirt for
258 pesos each, and 7 skirts for 150
pesos each. If she had 5,000 pesos,
how much would be left for her?
ESA METHOD
E: 5,000 − 2 × 75 + 5 × 258 + (7 × 150) = 𝑁
S:
A: 2,510 pesos
LET’S TRY!
In the first quarter, Joshua was able to
collect the following Reci-balls: 12
Pokéballs (1 pt), 6 Great Balls (2 pts), 4
Ultra Balls (3 pts), and 3 Master Balls (5
pts). What is the total recitation points
he had collected for that quarter?
QUESTIONS TO ANSWER
•What operations will help us solve
the problem?
•Solve the problem using ESA
Method
