- 23. No definition can appropriately capture the nature and essence of a library. The library is about ideas and information put in a particular order and made available for sharing – sharing for emancipation of the self and society from mental, psychological, medical, emotional, historical and retrogressive or any form of slavery.
- 24. The library takes you beyond your environment; it leads you into others’ good and bad thoughts. The library takes you to the endless journeys of imagination, unknown future, the esoteric and the mystical. The library displays the real and the unreal before you. The library tells you about things that don’t even exist.

Because of the unfathomable capabilities of the library and the undeniable fact that it is the teacher of teachers, it is also the maker of lawyers, doctors, engineers, surveyors, business men and women, accountants etc. Libraries help us to know, learn, teach and research. Libraries help us to confirm what we know. Libraries help us clears our doubts. Libraries inform and reform us.
- 26. Generally, libraries are institutions of education, learning, knowing and confirming the known to help determine the future. Variously it has been known as the public university, peoples university etc.
- 27. WHAT IS AN ACADEMIC LIBRARY? Auchi Polytechnic libary like every other reputable university library is an academic library. The primary function of an academic library is to SUPPORT teaching, learning and research. The higher institution has the primary assignment of teaching, learning and research. The libraries in such institutions are charged with the responsibilities of supporting teaching, learning and research. This explains why the library is often described as the HEART of the academic institution. The library could not have been better described because the professors, Chief Lecturers and all other lecturers put together CANNOT be more knowledgeable than the library. The library informs and teaches the lecturers and the lectured.
- 28. WHAT ABOUT AUCHI POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIES! The library in Auchi Polytechnic is unique in many ways: Locations Opening Staff Divisions and units Organization of resources and knowledge Operations/Services Dos and don’ts: do to others what you want done to you or do not do unto others that which you would not like done to you.

- 31. CONCLUSION Neither First class nor Second class upper can bring food to your table rather, what you know and others don’t, or what you can do that others can’t. The library gives ideas, and can make you an all rounder. Students who wish to enrich their lives with knowledge seek the services of a library. Store your wealth in your head and no man (thief) can steal it from you.
