The Irish Social Science Data Archive (ISSDA) is Ireland’s primary center for the acquisition, preservation, and dissemination of quantitative data in the social sciences, established in 2000. Based at UCD Library, it provides access to high-quality datasets for researchers and students while ensuring long-term data preservation and enhancing access through tools like NESSTAR. ISSDA offers support services for data requests, queries, and workshops to help researchers effectively utilize the available data.

- 3. IRISH SOCIAL SCIENCE DATA ARCHIVE ISSDA is Ireland’s leading centre for quantitative data acquisition, preservation, and dissemination. Based at UCD Library, its mission is to ensure wide access to quantitative datasets in the social sciences, and to advance the promotion of international comparative studies of the Irish economy and Irish society.
- 4. 2000ISSDA was set up in 2000 in the Geary Institute in UCD with support from the CSO & ESRI. ISSDA transferred from the Geary Institute to UCD Library during the summer of 2012. 20162012 B A C K G R O U N D A Data Manager for ISSDA was hired, highlighting UCD Library's continuing commitment to ISSDA.

- 6. PROFESSIONALLY CURATED All data disseminated by ISSDA have undergone rigorous checks to ensure that they are of a high quality. ISSDA enhances data through the creation of metadata based the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) . PRESERVEDENHANCED WITH METADATA D A T A A R E ISSDA is committed to maintaining data resources for the long term, ensuring that the archive’s holdings are always available in easily accessible forms.
- 7. DISSEMINATED VIA A NATIONAL PLATFORM All data disseminated by ISSDA have undergone rigorous checks to ensure that they are of a high quality. ISSDA holds a range of key Irish and international comparative datasets, and makes them available for secondary analysis by students, academics, and researchers in the public and commercial sectors. ENCRYPTEDDISSEMINATED UNDER LICENCE D A T A A R E ISSDA uses tools to ensure that data are encrypted at ingest and delivery. We use HEAnet FileSender to deliver data to researchers.
- 8. DIGITAL OBJECT IDENTIFIERS ISSDA will roll out Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for both data and documentation in the future. Nesstar is a software system for data publishing and online analysis. Users can search, browse and analyse the data online. NESSTAR F U T U R E S E R V I C E S

- 10. Request data 01 Researchers submit an application form to ISSDA. This describes which data are required, who will be using the data and what the intended use of the data is.
