  The profitability/success of Telematics depends on the richness of the services
portfolio.
  Car related: warranty, upgrade, recall
  CRM related: Dealer relationship, Brand Loyalty
  Consumer services: Push & Pull
  Services need to share as much as possible infrastructure and software to lower
cost
  New services have to be installed dynamically, and End-user should be able to
subscribe/unsubscribe offered services
  Users are nomadic, want the same service in the car, at home, on a PDA.
  Telematics units should be manageable
  Lots of issues (privacy, security, driver distraction, ..) are solved when the vehicle
clients are "controlled" by a trusted party and policies can be enforced
September 24, 2002 – OSGi World Congress 7
Policies
The Cornerstone of successful Telematics
  Can anyone offer any service at any time?
  Can any service access any device?
  Can any user use any service for free?
  Who knows that the user in the car is the same as the one at home?
  What if two users use the same car?
  How are users notified about new services?
  How do we link with legacy applications?
