Adobe Premiere Elements 7 Tutorial

Editor's Notes

  • #3: Begin by double clicking on the desktop icon. For this new software, it is the PRE letters. Then click the new project button, unless you are opening a project you have worked on before.
  • #4: This is the important point for saving your file on school division computers. You must name your project and then find a place to save it. You must choose a place on the hard drive of the computer you are using. The best place to do this is the “Desktop”.
  • #5: Click browse. Then you can find the Desktop and make a new folder there. The biggest issue at this point is trying to remember which computer you have worked on so that you can come back to the computer again and find your work.
  • #6: Name your folder so that you can easily find it.
  • #7: Just to demonstrate, you can put your disc in the disc drive and save your video footage on the desktop in your new folder.
  • #9: Once you finish choosing is name and a location, you will find this window. This gives you a lot of options for beginning a project. The most common way you will begin a project is to find video footage saved on the computer. Remember the folder you have on the desktop, you should save your raw video files in that folder.
  • #10: You have chosen to “get media” from “pc files and folders.” So find where the footage is stored. Do not use USB devices to store video, because it (USB) will not be fast enough to edit the video.
  • #11: Select the files you want to use in the video. A simple trick for this is to click the first file, hold down the “shift” key and click the last file. This will select them all.
  • #12: Then your video files so up here.
  • #13: Notice the tabs that are found here at the top right of the screen. The “Organize” tab is for getting media. The “Edit” tab is for, you guessed it, editing your video. The other two tabs are when you are finished and you want to make a DVD or upload your video, to the internet, for example. Now we will focus on editing.
  • #14: The first step is to put your video into an order to help you tell your story. At this point, you might want to look back at your script or storyboard to get the order correct. Now, drag your video (left click and hold on the file) onto the “sceneline.” The “sceneline” is one way to look at your video clips during editing. It allows you to see each clip as a separate piece. You can move the scenes around, by dragging them. You can shorten them, by dragging either end, or cut them in half at any point. You can also put transitions between the clips, or, if you are adventurous, you can apply special video or audio effects (which we will talk about later).
