This document provides information about the Academically/Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Program in Wake County Public School System. It shows that Wake County has a higher percentage of AIG students (20.3%) than the state of North Carolina overall (12.3%). The AIG Program seeks to promote high academic growth, foster high achievement, and support gifted learners from all populations. With the implementation of Common Core standards, the AIG Program will provide differentiated curriculum and instruction to enrich the standards through acceleration resources and professional development for teachers. Stakeholders who support AIG student success include parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators. Policies regarding academic acceleration and middle school math placement are also discussed.
