The document proposes an air-ground integrated mobile edge computing (MEC) framework to address challenges posed by growing demands for massive connectivity, ultra-low latency, and high reliability in emerging IoT applications. The framework conceives a new MEC approach from an air-ground integration perspective by systematically integrating communication, computing, and storage resources from both air segments (e.g. unmanned aerial vehicles) and ground segments (e.g. vehicles). This provides on-demand deployment of edge servers for efficient resource utilization and reliable service provisioning. The framework architecture and its technological benefits, such as enhanced connectivity, adaptive resource allocation, differentiated quality of service guarantees, and effective mobility management, are then described.
