An AI generation (working title) An AI generation is a documentary that will be based on the everchanging world of graphic design, and how the advancement of technology has led to the death of art. Going from hand crafted art created by experts that have measure a lot of skill and time into handcraft ownership to a click of simple button. AI rapid increase of popularity has only shown that things will get worse for artists. AI (artificial intelligence) has been around for many decades. first establishing itself in computer in 1950 due to the discovery Alan Turing’s deep curiosity into seeing if a computer can imitate a person’s behaviour. Breaking down how this technology produces itself is very complicated. Data is the key word to look at here. The computers are especially large machines which are able to produce a series of patterns that work injunction with human intelligence. Coding the data into algorithms allows it to work in a faster algorithm. Working at extreme speed, called cognitive computing. The computer often has built in GPU (Graphical processing unit) which allows the computer to produce many different complicate calculations at a speed which isn’t possible for a human to complete. For art in particular it will match in which a stylised image and then mimic the material whilst keeping the same blend of colours. Whilst computers have been registering these patterns since the early 90’s it’s popularity increase went up when Photoshop developed further. Art was then being created through a series of filters. Now as the advancement has gone up, we have found that this art is being generated as easy as the tap of a button. Apps such as lensa AI and replica have all being released due to the large success of photo manipulation. Now this is something that has been happening for years so why is it important now. The key words here are data laundering. Data laundering is when you steal someone’s data and convert to profit without their consent. The numerous incidents that have occurred like this have increased rapidly over the course of the years. Ai art can convert art in a way that photoshop could never do in a way where it’s almost unrecognisable. Stealing a person’s art and selling it for profit without recognition or copyright claim is a criminal act but something which many people get away with. Various social media sites such as instagram and twitter have shone a light on these incidents by frequent posts sharing how their work has been taken and manipulated in a way where it’s one simple of button. Destroying their original creative work. AI all together as an app generally is also destroying many artists’ career. In a similar way that streaming is destroying cinemas. We have got to a level where artists are commissioned less, and their work isn’t being rewarded enough. Despite many hours of handcraft. Whilst we haven’t gotten to the level where this has fully taken over art. It’s prediction for the future that will inevitably come true. Driving many artists out of the business and out of their careers. Quality recognition is going amiss though. AI art is intelligent but will never be intelligent towards a AI art

In this documentary I am hoping to draw the point perspective from both sides and argue the case between them. After all these companies are a huge insight and whilst I hope this documentary will be eye opening. It won’t be on the level where it’s shutting these companies down unless further subsequent information is found to take them to court. In a similar sense to a talk show debate, I want to get these people with conflicting opinions to talk to each other. That way they will be asking the questions that the viewer would want asked. Making whoever is watching involved in the documentary as opposed to one-to-one interviews that will just sprout random pieces of information to back up their points. Style and structure The most important element that I want to give this interview is its voice from the artists. Especially the one’s where the creation of these apps have affected their career in the industry. So, a series of interviews are important. A lot with vox pops, gathering enough generated dated from the public in general is just as important, as that will give a series of mixed reviews that don’t hold bias towards particular subject. When looking into my research I came across several documentaries which have a similar style of what I want to produce. One in particular ‘Ihuman’, a documentary about the creation of automation and what that could mean for humanity in general. To make the message that needs to be communicated effected. The film is painted almost in a horror style. Going into how any image without consent can be generated from these apps and the invasion of privacy behind it would be a good message to communicate through mine. Usage of many quick cuts and close zoom in’s would be a effective way of communicating this. A.I is another perfect example for inspiration. The invasion of privacy being ruined is strongly communicated through that. I need the pace to be quick, so that points aren’t repeated but the facts are communicated effectively. For vox pops a lot of them will be filmed outside. It will be a case of asking the general person and nothing pre planned, aside from questions. The sequence as talked about will hopefully juxtapose with the insightful deep answers from the artists being interviewed. Also in Louis Theroux style challenging those who work in this industry with casual walk in interviews. Being a graphic designer myself, I would like to provide narration and raw from my own personal experiences of identity theft. An AI Generation will be a thought-provoking insight into the destructive nature of technology and how it dominates humans.
