Pre-production video script
This is the time period coming towards the start of my production. In
a similar sense to my initial plans. A lot of this will consist of notes
and drawings that will bring the ideas that have I thought about to
life. This PowerPoint’s first section that I looked into was colour. The
colour being shown on the screen and what meaning each colour has
for evoking emotions. Along with keeping up with bibliographies
because research is imperative no matter how close to production is.
I wanted to go a bit more personal with this one in terms of a
psychological sense. Seeing what position of being a director and
telling people what to do work. Which one is most affective. I also
booked out some equipment to help with advancement of quality of
my project. So, I discussed that too. As production is coming closer
my planning since my initial plans has developed a lot more. From
taking a look at the rooms that I will be booking out to deciding
which aspect ratio would best for my project. This refreshes and
reminds me the importance of the professionalism when it comes to
my project. This planning has also helped my project come more
alive through storyboarding. Whilst I’m not the best hand drawing
artist. I think they do a good job at illustrating each shot and the
importance of the shots. From the very least the descriptions do. I
have also created layout plans for the magazine, DVD cover and
posters. This was very important because I wanted to be as unique as
possible. I didn’t want it to just be an average poster of image in the
middle and lettering in the bottom. This also helped me do some
more research into the layout of magazines as I was still a little
unsure about how I was going to the structure the layout of that.
One aspect I was surprised I hadn’t really covered yet was my
locations. Looking at the technical details and seeing why my area
would actually benefit my project. My planning I have enjoyed the
most out of any other part of the project that I have done yet. It felt
a lot less stressful now that everything was coming together. Plus, I
really wanted this project to have that natural feeling of it being set
in the 80’s so that it is noticeable without having to come out and
fully state it. So, I had to look a look at various props of old film
posters that could be hung up around the streets of York and look at
how these can be subtle references to the keen eye. Resources
however was the most useful part of my planning. Whilst I’m sure I
won’t be using all the props. Costumes. Equipment. It was important
to list as many different alternative tools which I could use.
Plus, in terms of getting this product sold through the public’s eye. I
wanted to make this film as real as possible. So that’s when I began
looking at more in universe products. So, exploring digital screen
advertisements, billboards and t-shirt printing websites in which any
merchandising can be sold through. Whilst also keeping to a tight
budget. Looking at various alternate cheap options I can explore
through different sites. Something I found funny when creating this
was different comparisons that could be made between the actors in
this and the characters that I had visioned. I’ve had a rather light
casting like I suspected. So, I thought it would be interesting putting
the two into comparisons. During this time, I have also had my script
drafted out in three different ways. Sending them out to various
people. However, I still haven’t fully perfected my script. I want to
make several improvements and naturally they will come with
filming. In a similar sense to my production experiments. A lot of this
part of project was just trial and error. Testing out various fonts and
sketching out how the designs are going to look. With this project I’m
trying to keep as original as possible. However, in a similar sense to
looking at variety of existing products in research. I have looked at
different fonts which I cold experiment with and use as a source of
inspiration. Looking at the style that it is trying to portray and
whether that fits in line with genre that I am making.
Lastly, I looked at different colour mood boards. Whilst this was
something that I looked at during my initial plans. I wanted to go
more in-depth with style and colour that will be portrayed through
the product. I suppose it could be divided into two subcategories.
Monochrome shots and the colour shots which involve’s more hints
of blue and subtle purple. However, it depends on what’s planning in
the shot. Whatever is being placed in the frame, it will have some
affect to the shot. Colour is placed in the scene to invoke meaning.
So, a lot about the colour is important and will have to involve a few
re-shoots come production because not only do I have to be reliant
on postproduction but the natural lighting coming into the scene
whilst filming.
Overall, my planning has been very beneficial when it has come to
assigning paperwork. The last section of filling out the call sheet
ready for filming tomorrow made me really prepared and excited for
the day to arrive. Production and postproduction are two important
categories which can’t really beat each other on a level of
importance no matter what role you are taking. Whether you are a
producer or an editor. Some planning methods need to be assigned
to both in order for them to be successful.
