CURRICULAR STATEMENT
By observation, communication drawing the child learns about the different types of pests and pest control methods
CONTENT ANALYSIS
Terms Quickwilt, Anthrax, Avian fly, brown, plant hopper, fruitfly, bugs, leafroller, beetles, tabacoodecoction,
Kernel suspension, Trichocards, psendomonas, trichogrema, wasp
Facts è Pests cause reduction of agricultural yield
è Pests which affects various crops harmfully
è Agriculture will be become economical only if the plants like blight disease, quickwilt disease,
mosaic etc.
è Their are many disease that affect the plants like blight disease, quickwilt disease, Mosaic etc.
è Brown Plant hopper is the pest which infects paddy.
è Fruit fly which affects the vegetables
è Mechanical, biological, and chemical pest controls are the main types of pest control.
è Picking pests using hand is Mechanical control
è Killing pests using natural enemies is a biological control.
è Chemical pesticides cause numerous environmental problems.
è In Mechanical control bugs were destroyed by placing burning torches in the field.
è Trichocards are cards containing eggs of an insert card trichogremma.
Concept 1. Agriculture will become economical only if the pests are controlled effectively.
2. In our early days pesticides did not cause any environmental pollution but today the pesticides are
became very harmful and are accumulate in our human body and cause many disease. In order to
destroy the pests like leafroller, water containing decayed fish was sprayed to attract the predators
of this worm fish was sprayed to attract the predators of this worm.
* Enables the pupils to acquire the following ideas.
è Factual knowledge about different types of pests and pest control methods.
1. Recalling new terms like fruittly, brown plant hopper, aphid, bugs, beetles, leafroller, coconut mite,
stemborer etc.
2. Recognising the various diseases caused by pests.
è Conceptual knowledge about different kind of pests.
1. Explaining the harmful effects of pests.
è Procedural knowledge about the different methods of pest control used in olden days and present
days.
1. Implimenting the skills of knowing more methods of pest control methods.
è Meta cognition knowledge about knowing more about pest control.
1. Differentiating the different types of pest control methods.
è Scientific attitude towards the present days pest control methods.
1. Showing interest to know more about the different methods of pest control.
è Process skills like,

Activity - I
Teacher divide the pupils into groups and shows the anima-tion
of different types of pests.
Indicators
1. Which are the pests do you seen in the picture?
2. Which are the pests that infectrice?
3. Which is the pests infects vegetables?
4. Coconut bite affects which crops?
Group Discussion lead by teacher
Ther are many types of pests cause the reduction of agricul-tural
yield and they causes many diseases stem borer infects
rice, fruitfly infect sall vegetables, coconut can be infected by
coconut mite Aphid also infectsrice. All those Pests are very

harmful to our crops and they reduce air agricultural yield.
Agriculture will become economical only if the pests are con-trolled
effectively.
Activity - II
Teacher divide the pupils into groups and gives the chart
shows the different types of pest control
METHODS OF PEST CONTROL
1. Mechanical control è Picking pests using hands
Here bugs were destroyed by placing torches in the field called
light trap. Fordestroying leaf roller with decayed fish sprayed
beetle sticks are used to picking beetles.
2. Biological control è Killing pests using their natu-ral
enemies eg: trichocards.
è These are cards containing egg of an insect
trichogremma belonging to the family of wasp.
3. Chemical control è pests controlled using
chemicals eg-DDT, Malathion.
Indicators
1. What are the different method of pest control?
2. How pests are controlled by the Mechanical Method?
3. In which method chemicals are used to control pests?
4. How pests are controlled by the biological method?
5. What is trichocards?
Group Discussion lead by the teacher
The different methods of pest controls are mechanical,
chemical and biological control By using mechanical con-trol
bugs were destroyed by placing torches in the field and
decayed fish was sprayed to destroy the leaf roller this was
done to attract the predators of this worm. Chemical are used
to control pests in chemical method killing pests using natu-ral
enemies in biological control method eg: trichocards.
