This document summarizes a class on intervening in social systems through leverage points and gap analysis. It discusses analyzing the current and desired states of a social system, and mechanisms to control inflows and outflows to maintain the desired state. Interventions can target correcting loops by slowing or speeding them up. However, focusing only on loops may not build resilience. A better approach is helping systems self-organize and adapt through new structures and behaviors. Guest speakers provided examples of social entrepreneurship creating leverage points in systems.
