This document outlines the assessment criteria and guidance for examiners assessing student responses to questions about examining historical sources relating to an event significant to New Zealanders. It provides three levels of achievement - achievement, merit, and excellence. It emphasizes that examiners should consider not just the summary report but also students' annotations on the sources. Examiners are directed to use grade score marking to evaluate responses to individual questions but also make an overall holistic judgment. Guidance is provided on skills like comprehending and extracting meaning from sources, and on historical concepts examiners may see students demonstrate like perspectives, reliability, and cause and effect.
