For a school research project, the author conducted a questionnaire about music preferences and magazine reading habits. Most respondents were between ages 16-20 and there was an even gender split. Rock was the most popular music genre. Kerrang and NME were the most popular existing magazines. Most respondents said they would pay £1-£2 for a new music magazine. The results provide guidance on targeting demographics, genres, styles and pricing for the author's proposed new music magazine.

- 2. For my research task I produced a questionnaire about music which I could use the results for to help me when it comes to producing my own music magazine. I included some important questions such as favourite music genres and what people like about magazines. I also asked what was their favourite music magazine on the market today and how that magazine stands out from the rest of the other magazines on the shelves. These questions would give me some good and bad examples of what to include or not to include in my magazine Here are the results from my questionnaire

There was 38 out of 64 people who filled out the questionnaire in the age range of 16 to 20. Between these 38 people there was an even distribution between male and female, so my magazine will have to appeal to both genders in some way. People of other age ranges also completed the questionnaire so I could possibly produce the magazine in a way that it will appeal to people of all ages and both genders.
- 4. Rock Pop Indie Metal Rap Other Looking at the results for the favourite genre question, I have discovered that the majority put Rock down as their favourite genre. Also a few people put down Indie and Pop. When it comes to producing my music magazine the main genre focus will be rock music , however I can also include a variety of Pop and Indie bands to appeal to a wider audience. As many people did not put answer with the other genres I think I will not include them in the magazine.

As I can see by the results Kerrang was the favourite closely followed by NME. Which are possibly the two most know and popular music magazines. When producing my own magazine I will take ideas from these two different magazines to help me produce my own. Q magazine was the next favourite so I may also include features which are used within Q magazine.
- 6. I next asked people the amount of money which they are likely to spend on a music magazine. As shown in the results below the majority of people opted in the £1-£2 category. This allows me to set myself a budget when making the magazine. If I would sell it for this price it would have to make it’s money back through advertisements or some other way. Also this data lets me see if the magazine should be weekly or monthly.
