  • #3: The ASCA ModelFour Major Areas: FoundationDelivery SystemAccountabilityManagement SystemPossible the change for our program may occur in different components simultaneously – not necessarily going to focus on just one componentRemember there are things we can control that will effect change and things outside of our control that will effect change We will not be able to review in-depth this model at this time as it is quite comprehensive, however the eventual goal is to walk our hui step-by-step through the ASCA Model slowly, and to provide you with easy to understand examples of what this model would look like for our counseling program here at KS.Main thing is you have the visual and we will continue to refer to this diagram throughout the rest of the year.Movement throughout the model Outside parameters are the blood that keep the flow of the model/process
  • #4: 3 types of DATA:Needed to complete the Guidance Curriculum Action Plan, yet these data serve much more than just “needed to fill in the action plan”-ASCA model (research) recommends collecting PROCESS, PERCEPTION, and RESULTS DATA – to best measure the effectiveness of a school counseling programPrevious research has shown, when a counseling program or activity seeks to measure all 3 data, it improves the likelihood of impacting student behavior (behavior change)

Perception & Results Data = process data CANNOT tell us whether students are different as a result of a counselor’s actions/programPerception Data = what has the student learned (as a result of the guidance lesson) – Attitude, Knowledge, Skill = behavior changeResults Data = demonstrate whether or not, the newly learned Attitudes, Knowledge, & Skills has resulted in BEHAVIOR CHANGE = measured by Achievement-Related data & Achievement Data
  • #7: Perception data measures whether…..Students ATTITUDES or beliefs have changed or shifted as a result of the guidance lesson or activityStudents KNOWLEDGE increased as a result of the guidance lesson,Students learned a SKILL or set of SKILLSAttitudes, skills and knowledge (ASK) work together to INFLUENCE BEHAVIOR CHANGEWhen school counselors develop guidance lessons which BOTH ADDRESS AND MEASURE all 3 ASK perception data areas, BEHAVIOR CHANGE IS MORE LIKELY TO FOLLOW. It is this behavior change we hope will improve overall academic achievement.See pages 41-44 in book “Evidenced-based school counseling”
