INTRODUCTION
Information and communication technology (ICT) is often used as an
extended synonym for information technology (IT), but is a more specific term
that stresses the role of unified communications (telephone line and wireless
signals). Recent developments in the field of new technology have revolutionized
the ways in which knowledge transfer can occur in the social science.
Technological escalation has bestowed upon education proliferation of equipment
and materials which can assist in the re organization and redefinition of
educational experiences.
Constructivism means pupil studying in his/her own manner critical
thinking strengthening is the main theme of this kind of study
Characteristics of consructivism
 The learners are actively involved
 The environment is democratic
 The activities are interactive and student centered
 The teacher facilitates a process of learning in which students are
encouraged to be responsible and autonomous.
Role of Teacher in constructivist approach
The teacher’s role is to prompt and facilitate discussion. The teacher’s main
focus should be on guiding students by asking questions that will lead them to
develop their own conclusionon the subject. Teacher prevaile democratic
environment Equal opportunities gaining each students or should aware about
democracy and secularism.
Evaluation in Social Science
Traditionally evaluation in the classroom is based on testing. In this style
constructivit teaching the process of gaining knowledge is viewed as being just as
important as the product. Assessment is based not only testes, but also on
observation of student, the student’s work and student’s point of view
 Oral discussion
 Debates
 Map reading
 Field visit
 Social service
 Environmental programmes
 Cleaning
 Co-operation
Textbook in social science education
This is contrary to the traditional classroom in which students work primarily
alone, learning is achieved through repetition. Textbook should activity oriented.
Pupil answering his own intelligence and creativity
Dewy, Piaget, Bruner, Vygotskey, Howard Hardner these are constructist
thinkers.
ICT based education in social science
While there are changes in the views of the nature of social science and the
role of social science in education, the increasing prevalence of information and
communication technologies (ICT) also offers challenge to the models of teaching
learning process.
For example, offer ICT offer arrange of different tools for use in the school
activities.
 Projector based learning
 Audio visual learning
 Social issues based learning
 Computer controlled microscope and map
 Publishing and presentation system
Some important values for proper use of ICT in socials science
 Best motivators
The students work with more interest and zeal.
 Clear image
Clear image are formed when we see, hear, touch, as our experiences are
direct. Concrete and more or less permanent.
 Freedom
ICT used learning is great scope for children to move about talk, laugh and
comment upon.
 Variety
 Realism
 Antidote to the disease of verbal instruction.
ICT used social science study is more effective and pupil centered.
CONCLUSION
Constructivist approach and ICT based study is both pupil centered. The
teachers are facilitates a process of learning in which students are encouraged to be
responsible and autonomous.
The replacement of the older and perhaps more familiar team ICT in
education by the new term educational technology and instructional technology is
primary due to the dynamic use and expansion of internet projector.
