This unit is for a fourth grade class to teach about holidays from different cultures and religions. There are 20 students, with 11 girls and 9 boys, including 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish, and 2 African American students. The unit will focus on December holidays over the course of a week, with a different holiday taught each day - Hanukkah on Monday, Christmas on Tuesday, Kwanza on Wednesday, Dhu al-Hijjah on Thursday, and a review on Friday. Students will be split into groups to research and present a holiday to the class on Friday, including a poster, song, food, origin, and greetings in other languages. Arts and crafts and a final celebration are also planned.
