ASSURE Method
Scenario #2
A – Analyze Learners: The students that I will be teaching are in the 4th grade, which would put
them in an age group around 9-10 years old. There are 20 students; 11 girls and 9 boys. There are
at least 2 different religions in this class; 2 Muslims and 3 Jewish students. There are also 2
African-American students in the class.
S – State Objectives: My students will be able to know and describe the widely known holiday
traditions of Christmas. The students will be able to identify fictional characters related to
Christmas like Santa Claus, Christmas trees, and the origins of gift-giving. They will learn these
objectives by being provided films to watch, pictures to observe, and objects to interact with
together as a class. This lesson shall be given a week to teach the students and will have a 90%
degree of accuracy.
S – Select Materials: For this lesson I will include many visual, audible, and tangible objects for
the students to interact with to solidify my objectives. I will have Youtube videos available that
will discuss the origins stories of Santa Claus and have a playlist available of classic Christmas
carols. I will provide gift wrap, boxes, and gifts for the students to choose from so they can
experience this tradition of gift-giving. I will also provide an album of Christmas trees and then
utilize a coloring book worksheet so they can create their own personal Christmas trees. More
crafts to include would be creating Christmas cards for the elderly or the enlisted overseas.
U – Utilize Media and Materials: Through the use of Youtube videos I will expect the students to
be able to identify Santa Claus on the visual level and understand the story behind him. The
Christmas carols will also be able to be identified through the auditory senses and visual by the
lyrics being provided for them for each classic carol. After showing the students albums of
various Christmas trees I will require them to use a coloring worksheet so they can create their
own personal Christmas trees. I will require the students after a couple days of learning about
Christmas to make their own cards for either loved ones, elderly, or the enlisted overseas. This
will give them a sense of the traditions and help utilize vocabulary. At the end of the week the
students will be able to exchange the gifts they made earlier within the lesson.
R – Require Learner Participation: Students will have to participate in the singing of Christmas
carols and actively paying attention to Youtube videos that are relevant to the origin stories of
Santa Claus. The Christmas tree craft activities will be done in groups so they will be able to
share materials and ideas. The creation of gifts for other students will be done on the basis of
Secret Santa.
E – Evaluate and Revise: For the evaluation process, I would keep in mind throughout the week
what the students have accomplished and if they are retaining the material. At the beginning of
every class the day after a lesson, I would ask them to write a short paragraph of what they liked
the most, the least, and what they did for their project the previous day. On the final day, I would
ask them to identify various images from throughout the lessons and tell me what they liked the
most about Christmas. For the revision process, I would hopefully get this information from the
bellringer type papers from the beginning of each class. However, if I noticed at the end of the
week or later on when I chose to touch on Christmas again, that the students were not recalling
the information, I would then go back and revise my lesson plan.
