WHAT IS AWS CONTROL TOWER? • AWS Control Tower provides the easiest way to set up and govern a secure, multi-account AWS environment, called a landing zone. • It creates your landing zone using AWS Organizations, bringing ongoing account management and governance as well as implementation best practices based on AWS’s experience working with thousands of customers as they move to the cloud. • If you are building a new AWS environment, starting out on your journey to AWS, or starting a new cloud initiative, AWS Control Tower will help you get started quickly with built-in governance and best practices. ANNOUNCEMENT • AWS Control Tower Account Factory for Terraform (AFT), a new Terraform module maintained by the AWS Control Tower team that allows you to provision and customize AWS accounts through Terraform using a deployment pipeline. • Your developers can now enjoy a streamlined process which automates the provisioning of fully functional accounts, providing your users with faster access to the resources they need to be successful. • The source code for the development pipeline can be stored in AWS CodeCommit, GitHub, GitHub Enterprise, or BitBucket.

HOW WILL IT HELP YOU? • AFT provides you with a single Terraform infrastructure as code (IaC) pipeline to provision an AWS Control Tower managed account that helps meet your business and security policies, before handing the accounts to end users. • AFT provides automated account creation that includes monitoring when account provisioning is complete, and then triggers additional Terraform modules to enhance the account with any customizations necessary as a part of the same IaC pipeline. • As part of the customization process you can configure the pipeline to install your own custom Terraform modules.
