What Is a
Computer?
a machine that
changes information according to
well defined rules. Examples of
early computers are the astrolabe
and the abacus. Modern
computers are able to control
traffic lights, cars or locks modern
computers can be used to play
music or video.
Mouse
A device that controls the
movement of the cursor on the
display screen.
Touch-pad
a pointing device featuring a
touch sensor, that can translate
the motion and position of a
user's fingers to a relative
position on screen.
Keyboard

a person to enter symbols like
letters and numbers into a
computer. It is the main input
device for most computers.

The First Thing Is first Find The Power Button.
What IS the screen I see now
The first screen you see when your
computer starts up is called the
desktop. On your desktop, you will
                see small icons, which represent
                the different programs that are
available for you to use. In order
to navigate and move around on
your desktop, you will need to use
the mouse, which acts as a
pointer, and which you need to
use to tell the computer which
                program you want to use.
How do I use the mouse to
move around my screen?
As you slide your mouse around, it will move the
arrow pointer (cursor) on your screen in
response. If your mouse slips off the edge of the
desk or runs into the keyboard, just pick it up
and move it back into the middle. Your mouse
will not do anything if it cannot slide on a flat
surface. If you have a touch screen pad, just
slide your finger gently across the pad to move
the cursor.
The Start Menu
 This is the most
    important thing on
    your desktop
 This is located at the
        bottom left corner of
        your screen. Click on
        this button and you
        should see some of
        your programs.

The Start Menu
You will also see a section
                 that says “All Programs”
                 near the bottom. If you
                 move your cursor on top
of that, a new box and
click it, it will open with
                 the rest of your programs.
                 You can open any of
                 these by left-clicking on
                 them.
The Start Menu
Find “Wordpad” and
click on it (it may be in
accessories). You have
just opened your first
program. Wordpad is a
text editor and allows
you to write text.
Wordpad
 In WordPad there is a
              place you can write
              text.
           You can change the
              way the text looks and
              how big it is
 For now just write a few
              lines in the world press
File management
 Click the picture of a disk in the
top left hand corner of the
                screen.
 We have to think of a smart
                name, and put it in
 once we have a good name
we have to think were we are
                going to save it
 After we are done you must
                click on the save button
Closing a program
 Once we have
    saved are file and
    that we are done
    with it we must close
    it.
 We do this by
    clicking the red “x” in
    the left hand corner
File Management
In the start menu find
“Computer” and click on it!
File Management
 On the side find and
                click documents
 You should see the file
                we named before
 We can double click it
                    to open it
 You can right click it to
                    see another menu
 You can drag it as well
File Management
 Right Click the white space and selectee
“New” then “File”. Now that we have a
new file we can add our text document
  to the file.
 To delete a file we can right click the file
  and then click delete
Shut Down
 Once you are finished what you wish to do
on your computer, you will begin the “Shut
Down” process. The first thing you want to
do is save any files or documents that you
have open if you want to save them, and
then close all of the programs you have
open (red “x” on the top right corner of all
your screens). Also check to make sure
that there are no programs open along
the bottom toolbar (if there are, click to
open them and then click the red “x”).
When all of the programs are
closed, move your mouse over so that
your cursor is on top of the “Start” menu
button at the bottom left of your screen.
