Skill development policy in India
•Skill development has been focused by policy
makers.
•Ministry of skill development.
•National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)
•National Skill Development Framework (NSQF)
•National Skill Development Agency (NSDA).

Need of New tools of evaluation
•Skill development has become important aspect of
the policies; soon it will be reflected in education
system. Written exam is not suitable to assess the
skill acquirement. So need to find alternative
evaluation tools for it. The performance rubrics are
one of the tools of skill acquirement.
1/4/2018 5www.sureshisave.in
•Written, oral and practical exams are being used
for evaluation of the students. Generally the
knowledge is evaluated with these tools. Rating
scales also used in oral and practical exams which
prove insufficient to evaluate skills and
performance precisely. So there is a need of more
sophisticated and systematic tool i.e. rubrics

Definition of Rubrics
•Rubrics are formally defined as scoring guides
consisting of specific pre established
performance criteria, used in evaluating
student work on performance assessment.

Features of Quality Rubrics
• Rubrics should be task specific rubrics.
• Task analysis should be done thoroughly to find out the
criteria of the tasks. Number of criterion should be
appropriate to the evaluation.
• Descriptors should be written precisely and in observable
terms.
• Terms that are used to describe the performance levels
should be selected carefully. These terms should be indicating
the mastery and should be selected from a particular field.
e.g. good-better-best
• Scores given should be in justified manner and spread on
equal distance from each other. e.g 1.2.3.4, 2-4-6-8 1/4/2018 13www.sureshisave.in

Conclusion
•The performance rubrics are based on observation
technique.
•Rubrics are very useful in assessment of skills and
performances, its tedious job to develop appropriate
rubrics.
•To identify criteria, deciding levels and writing
descriptors accordingly is the key of quality rubrics.
•If it is done carefully, rubrics would be proved
appropriate tool of evaluation of all round development
of students. 1/4/2018 15www.sureshisave.in
