Types of Garden
 Vegetable Garden
 Ornamental Garden
 Herbal Garden
INTRODUCTION
Gardening is both an art and science
and it’s that tension that is at the root of
the confusion for many new gardeners.
There are scientific principles that need to
be followed-overcrowding plants or
growing in poor quality soil will set you
up for failure. Here, the whole assignment
is discussing about the three major types
of gardening- Vegetable garden,
Ornamental garden and Herbal garden.
Vegetable Garden
A Vegetable garden is also
known as a Vegetable Patch or Vegetable
plot, that it is a garden that exists to grow
Vegetables and other plants useful for
human consumption, in contrast to a
flower garden that exists for aesthetic
purposes. It is a small-scale form of
vegetable growing. A vegetable garden
typically includes a compost heap, and
several plots or divided areas of land,
intended to grow one or two types of
plant in each plot. Plots may be divided
into rows with an assortment of
vegetables grown in the different rows. It
is usually located to the rear of a property
in the back garden or back yard. Many
families have home kitchen and
vegetable gardens that they use to
produce food.
With worsening economic
conditions and increased interest in
organic sustainable living, many people
are turning to vegetable gardening as a
supplement to their family’s diet. Food
grown in the backyard consumes little if
any fuel for shipping or maintenance and
the grower can be sure of what exactly
was used to grow it. Organic horticulture
or Organic gardening has become
increasingly popular for the modern
home gardener.
Vegetable gardening at home is
an easy way to save money. In almost
every case, the flavor and texture of
vegetables from a garden far exceed
grocery store produce. By planting
vegetables, you can enjoy the pleasure of
savoring delicious, sun-warmed
vegetables fresh from your backyard.
HOW TO DESIGN A VEGETABLE
GARDEN
 The first part of designing a vegetable
garden is selecting the plant which is
appropriate for a beginner vegetable
garden. The selected plants or seeds
must be useful for your daily life and
keep in mind that vegetables selected
must provide throughout the season.
 Select appropriate spot for your
vegetable garden. The selected place
must have full sun, plenty of water,
Good soil etc...
 Prepare the land according to the
availability of the garden.
 Plant the seeds or plants in the garden.
A good vegetable garden helps to avoid
the excess use of sprayed vegetables, and
fruits. By the use of organic vegetables
we can save our life from harmful
diseases such as cancer, infertility etc.
Ornamental Garden
Ornamental gardening can be
simply defined as planting various plants
on a piece of ground from and for an
artistic point of view. An ornamental
garden therefore is one that is planted
purely for aesthetic value.
.Ornamental plants are plants
that are grown for decorative purposes in
gardens and landscape design projects, as
house plants, cut flowers and specimen
display. The cultivation of ornamental
plants are called floriculture, forms a
major branch of horticulture.
These gardens make
surrounding buildings more visually
interesting. For institutions devote to
contemplation, especially that is religious
institutions, ornamental gardens provide
locations with ambient environment for
meditation. Ornamental gardens are also
used for pleasure and recreation and also
for botanical studies.
BENEFITS OF ORNAMENTAL
GARDENS
Ornamental gardens are
pleasant to be in and are used for
activities such as sports, concerts and
weddings pleasantly manicured lawns,
hedges and a myriad of flowers and plant
make these gardens attractive. For others,
they are the perfect grounds for
meditation purposes.
They help regulate the micro-
climate around them. Plants ability to
enrich air of oxygen and rid it to toxins is
immeasurable. They also add on to the
atmospheric humidity levels for a cooler
and cleaner location to be in. The
gardens are also a habitat for birds,
insects and other creatures.
HERBAL GARDEN
An Herbal garden is basically a
garden that is being used solely to grow
herbs. A better description of what an
herb garden might be is a beautiful and
relaxing place where you can find plants
that are not only useful but beneficial to
the enjoyment of life.
An herb garden can be any size
or shape and can contain many different
types of herbs or just a few. An herb
garden may take up an entire yard or may
simply be planted in a small window box
container. Herb gardens can be kept
indoors on a sunny window or outdoors
in the open breeze. An herb garden
design can also be incorporated into a
vegetable garden, with landscape
strawberry, or mixed in with your
flowers.
TYPES OF HERB GARDEN
There are many different types
of herb gardens, and many ways for
using herb gardens, each with their own
character and charisma.
Kitchen Hub Garden
A culinary or kitchen herb
garden will consist of only herbs used for
flavoring in cooking. Most are grown in
containers, though they can be grown in
the garden too, nearest the kitchen. It
might contain parsley, Basil, Chives,
Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme etc...
Fragrant Herb Garden
An aromatic herb garden will
consist of herb plants that are highly
noted for their fragrance and used for cut
flowers, aromatherapy, or for making
potpourri and scented candles, it might
contain herbs like: lavender, lemon balm,
scented geraniums etc.
Herbal Tea Garden
An Herbal tea garden will
consist of herbs such as Chamomile,
anise, hyssop and assorted mints that can
be brewed into delicious teas.
Medicinal Herb Garden
A medicinal herb garden will
consist of herbs used for soothing and
comfort, where you might find aloe and
feverfew. A word of caution on using
herb gardens for medicinal purposes:
while some herbs have been found to be
helpful, other herbs have been found
harmful if ingested or used improperly.
Always check with a doctor before
starting any herbal remedy.
Ornamental Herb Garden
Ornamental herb gardens are
prized for their beautiful flowers and
unusual foliage. The most popular type
of herb garden design consist of many
different varieties of herbal plants, some
for cooking, some for fragrance, some
for beauty, and some for just soothing
your soil.
CONCLUSION
A garden is a planned space,
usually outdoors, set aside for the
display, cultivation, or enjoyment of
plants and other forms of nature. A
vegetable garden is a garden that exists to
grow vegetables and other plants useful
for human consumption. And a herbal
garden is a garden that is being used
solely to grow herbs. An ornamental
gardening can be simply defined as
planting various plants on a piece of
ground from and for an artistic point of
view.
