The purpose of this assignment is to:                                                                                     
 
Introduce learners to the production and use of digital video material for an interactive media product. Learners 
will investigate how video is used in interactive media products and will examine the technology used to produce 
and manipulate digital video sequences. Learners will plan and create a video sequence and prepare it for use 
within an interactive media product. 
 
Enhance your organisational skills by planning the production of your advert. 

Scenario                                                                                                                  
You have been asked to devise a digital video sequence for an interactive media product (an advertisement). 
The client will be Fizzy‐Drink Inc who wants you to individually design and create the resources for a looping advert 
between 30 to 60 seconds long (maximum) suitable for insertion into a website that will promote the product and 
explain the advantages and reasons for buying it. 
 
Every media production involves planning to enable the project to be successful. This process is referred to as pre‐
production. As part of this assignment you are required to have the knowledge and understanding of what pre‐
production is and how you apply it to your advert.  
 
Communication is essential when planning a production and you will need to ensure that your production team (if 
working individually all planning needs to be documented and evidenced) meets regularly to provide updates on 
pre‐production tasks that are completed and outstanding. As part of your pre‐production evidence, you must 
keep a record of meetings that take place and any decisions made and agreed on by your production team or if 
working individually any meetings with your client. 
 
As part of the planning for this assignment you will be involved in designing storyboards and a detailed dope sheet 
outlining what is required for a successful advert. As a production team (or individually) you will further develop 
your storyboards, dope sheets and detailed drawings of logo/can designs etc. Further development of your 
chosen dope sheet and storyboards will be decided through regular production team meetings. 
 
For this assignment you must research and assign production roles and produce pre‐production documentation. 
Your group (or individually) must also produce detailed storyboards and production planning documentation in 
preparation for the production phase of your advert.

You are required to produce a newsletter (back‐to‐back printing) using Microsoft Publisher or other suitable 
software application for your client. They want you to outline how we use digital video technology to help a user’s 
interactive experience on different delivery platforms. 
 
In your newsletter you must cover both of the following sections: 
 
Applications  
Technology as relevant to each application. 
 
Examples need to be included from some of the following areas with specific illustrations to endorse your points. 
In applications, some of the uses including film trailers, user‐generated content and e‐learning. Also platforms 
including WWW, kiosks and mobile devices.

transfer rate, file size, media players and digital rights management systems.
