• #3: We’re all aware that consumer technology is fundamentally transforming the way we live.Today, we’re all masters of our technology at home.We’re delighted with how powerful, flexible and fun it is.We can’t wait to use our iPhones, Androids and iPads.We even stand in line for hours to buy this stuff when new versions come out.Search bars, status bars and apps have transformed how hundreds of millions access and share information.Google has enabled a billion people to ask any question and get answers without any help.Mark Zuckerberg and his 500 million Facebook friends have figured out a way to stay connected and share information.Apps have forever changed our view of applications.They’re no longer heavyweight.Now, they’re lightweight, purpose-built and there are hundreds of thousands of them.And it’s predicted there will be 27 millions iPads in use by 2011, with 46% being used at work.This has changed people’s expectations of their workplaces.They expect to have the same experience when they come to work and they’re not getting it.Forward-looking organizations are looking to make major changes to enable this sort of self-directed, user-focused experience.There’s clearly a huge opportunity to leverage the consumer approach in organizations of all sizes around the world.
• #4: Traditional BI is a well-defined, mature category dominated by mega-vendors who provide top-down solutions owned and driven by IT.Typically, their solutions provide little more than static, prepackaged PDF reports.To a lot of end users, these reports are just spam. They just sit in inboxes and few people open them.That’s because in most cases the reports don’t address the most urgent questions and don’t answer new, pressing questions either.Traditional BI vendors are also locked into huge application stacks.They have a value curve that is focused on entrenched, rigid standards and significant services. It reflects their focus on acquiring technologies and companies, and constant upselling to integrate them into existing deployments.All of this involves a substantial amount of bailing wire and expensive professional services.It functions a lot like legacy back office applications.And like back office applications, traditional BI has slow time to value, is expensive, and is very hard to change.What this means is traditional BI doesn’t serve the business.And we’re not the only ones who say so.
• #5: Gartner talks about the need for a portfolio approach because traditional BI is not serving the business.It says businesses need tools focused on business users and that QlikView is the power child for this new end user-driven BI approach.Gartner acknowledges that business users are now more vocal, demanding and influential than ever.It gave us among the highest scores for end user customer experience, vendor success and business benefit outcomes.It also says we provide among the best performance in the BI market.Let’s look at how we deliver on that.
• #6: We call our approach Business Discovery.It’s a whole new way of doing things for BI.It focuses on the end user and the groups and organizations they exist in, rather than the top-down approach of traditional BI.QlikView takes a bottoms-up approach that provides information and analysis precisely focused on the business problems end users are trying to solve.It’s also about helping users share knowledge and analysis across individuals, groups and organizations. Imagine the dramatic impact this could have if it was deployed across organizations throughout the world.With QlikView, business users will typically initially work with IT to set up their data feeds.From there, users are able to work with that data any way they want. And they can be confident they are always working with the correct data.
• #10: There’s a shift away from heavyweight, big bang enterprise or back office BI applications that are expensive and take forever to deploy.Today’s businesses want lightweight apps that are developed and deployed quickly for specific people and groups that need them.This is the only model that can scale to bring insight across an organization.The centralized model has failed to serve the business.QlikView ‘s app-driven model is a response to an unmet need.QlikViewlets any end user quickly develop and deploy apps.Just like iTunes, hundreds of apps can be made available.People can use these apps for awhile and then they might go away as they move on to the next thing.If you look at the bigger picture, only a fraction of business decisions that could be supported are supported. With our app model, the sky’s the limit.Virtually every decision-making process can benefit from this app approach.
• #12: Within workgroups, departments or organizations, people are often working on a set of related issues.They need to be able to collaborate on and share that information.With QlikView, business users can access and analyze information specific to their needs, instead of dealing with top-down, prepackaged information.And they can take their data and analytics and easily provide them to their colleagues.This is exactly how we see QlikView being used every day, across the world.Ultimately, QlikView is about creating a community of users who engage in wiki-like decision-making to drive knowledge that can cascade across an organization.
