Before we begin,
let’s get to know
Canva first.

was founded
January 1, 2012
in Australia.

Founders
Melanie Perkins
and Cliff Obrecht
got inspiration

from the
success of
Fusion Books,

the online
yearbook
publisher they
developed

which is now
the biggest in
Australia.

They believed
the technology
they used

had applications
beyond the
yearbook market,

and they knew
they had to
pursue their
vision.

And they did –
together with
co-founder Cameron
Adams.

With their tagline,
“Amazingly simple
graphic design
software,”

Canva is a super-
easy-to-use online
graphic design tool

that will help even a
person without an
ounce of artistic
talent

create beautiful
images for social
media.

It let’s you
design everything
you could possibly
need -

from social media
posts to flyers,

Unlike other design
apps or software,

Canva’s easy to
use drag-and-drop
interface

makes it so user-
friendly that

you get the hang of it
in no time.

and dimensions that
are customizable

so you can add
in your own details.

Result?!! Beautiful
graphics & images

with no design
experience necessary.

Now let’s get on
with your
Canva
tutorial

so we can
make
beautiful graphics
for just about anything!

First, make your own
Canva account.

Open your web
browser (Google/
Mozilla /Yahoo)

Type in canva.com
in the address bar
and press Enter.

For this tutorial, let’s
sign up via email.

Welcome to your
account homepage!

the features of Canva -
one by one.

Canva made
pre-defined templates

or design types and
dimensions

the design types Canva
has made available.

Scroll down to see all
the choices -

You can also use
your own dimensions.

and click
Use custom dimensions

at the upper rightmost
part of the page.

the lowest default
value of 40 px (pixels).

Remember:
the default unit of
measure is pixels.

If you’re not using
px (pixels),

then any value you
type in will

automatically be
“recalculated”

to its equivalent in
mm (millimeter)

corresponding unit
of measure.

To avoid this
automatic
“recalculation”

if you’ll use either mm.
or in. for your design,

click first the unit of
measure of choice

and height of your
planned design.

the empty canvass you
can now work on.

Now for this tutorial,
we are going

to use a pre-defined
template .

Click on Poster to start
on a new design.

leftmost side of your
design screen.

Let’s get to know each
item one by one.

Canva Search
gives you access to

over a
million images in
their library

to help you
create
beautiful designs.

Click the Search tab
to see this part.

Type in what you’re
looking for

Decide if you just want
to search for Photos,

Click on your choice to
see the results

that correspond
to your search.

Scroll down to see all –
the free photos that

and the ones where
you need to pay

a $1 apiece
in order to use them.

You can also check out
their vast collection of

free photos by clicking
on the Elements tab.

Open the Free Photos
folder and scroll down.

Layouts offer
pre-designed
visual solutions

for any
kind of content
you want to make.

Browse through
Canva’s
layouts library
if you need

a little help in
starting or composing
your design.

In your design
screen, the first thing

you’ll see is the
Layouts tab.

Canva has prepared a
number of layouts

that can help you
get started.

Scroll down & browse
through the options.

Once you’ve
identified a layout,

and it appears on
your workspace.

You can tweak the
layout as much as

you like by changing
any design element

like fonts, colors and
images used on it.

When you hover the
mouse over a text or

image element of the
layout on your canvas,

the mouse pointer
turns into a .

It means it can be edited
accdg to your need.

Click on the text or
image you want

to change and handles
appear around it.

The editor toolbar
will also show up

Use any of the features
on the editor toolbar

to edit and customize
your design.

To delete a layout
element ,click on it

so that the handles
around it appear.

at the upper rightmost
corner of your canvas.

To completely delete an
entire layout,

Click from one corner
of the layout,

hold and drag all
the way down

until all the elements
have been selected.

and your canvas is
now blank space.

Now let’s check out
another Canva
menu item:

There are many
features under
ELEMENTS.

Let’s click on
ELEMENTS and find out.

You’ll see 8 folders
which hold collections

of images under 8
different categories -

Click one and
it will bring up

images and illustrations
from Canva’s library

and click on what
you want to use.

To check out the
other folders

so you’ll get back to
the Elements menu.

Go ahead and check out
the other categories.

Now let’s take a
look at the next
menu item -

Text refers to the
written message /
information

that is the heart of
your design.

While the visual
appeal of your work
is very important,

you also need to
pay attention to the

arrangement and
styling of your
text.

Your aim is to
make your
written message

look aesthetically
appealing and
easy to read

so the reader can
absorb your
message.

The variety of text
and text holders
Canva provides

will simplify this
all for you.

Click on the Text
tab to add text

to your work or
choose from any

of the pre-designed
text holders.

For the text, there are
3 basic options:

Click or drag
any (or all) of the 3

to add text anywhere
in your design.

Then click on
the text to format it

using the editor
toolbar above.

Currently, you can
work with & change:

Text holders, on the
otherhand,

are text boxes with
graphic design.

Using text holders
makes it easier

You can easily edit
the color, fonts,

visual impact
to your graphics.
