- Robert Hooke discovered cells in 1665 in England. There are two main types of cells - animal and plant cells, which have some similar characteristics but also differences.
- Plant cells contain a cell wall and chloroplasts. They have a large central vacuole surrounded by a tonoplast membrane. Animal cells make up humans and animals, and the largest is an ostrich egg.
- Inside animal cells are organelles like the nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, centrioles, plasma membrane, vacuoles, and lysosomes. Vacuoles store water and food while lysosomes digest waste and food for energy.
