Cell phone reflection

First of all, cell phones are probably the most useful and rising gadget of this

century. You can listen to music, take pictures, surf the internet, text messages, and do

much more with them, especially if you have a smart phone. Having a phone opens a

whole new world of possibilities and facilitates tasks. You can also download apps for

entertainment, travel, sports, weather, and much more. However, the use of cell phones

in school grounds has been banned partially and completely in some places. Some say

it is better that way, but I sincerely think that cell phones are a key tool and an

advantage for every student and teacher, and therefore its usage in school and

classrooms should be allowed.

All teachers should allow their students to use their cell phones or itouch/ipad in

class. Not only are they like miniature computers, which most teachers allow, but they

are also much more handy, and the kids of nowadays use better and faster their cell

phones and their computers. In Mathematics you can use you phone as a calculator, in

English as well as in several other subjects, cell phones could be used to take notes, as

a dictionary, or to search something in the internet. Also, the camera can be used

instead of taking notes, making it much simpler and faster though equally effective.
Voice notes or videos of a class can be taken in order to remember better what the

teacher explained and to review for a test or quiz. With phones, everything would be

much simpler and faster, making students’ life way better.

The truth is that I couldn’t live even a week without my cell phone. I might survive

a couple of days, but that I would not let go of my itouch and my laptop. I use my cell

phone all the time, either for texting my friends and parents/family member, to search

things in the internet, to take pictures, to listen to music, for twitter, facebook, and many

other things. I mean, I would practically go crazy if I didn’t have my cell phone for a

relatively short period of time. Since I got my first blackberry, which was basically my

first real phone, I have always had one. The longest I’ve been without a cell phone was

like a week, but that was because I sold it to buy a new one. It is like a need to have my

cell phone, even if I am not really using it 24/7. However, now I do use my phone all

day, the battery doesn’t even last 24 hours! It would be very hard for me to live without

my cell phone, or any other electronic device of mine.

In conclusion, I believe that using cell phones in class should definitely be

allowed. It is a way to do things faster, and maybe even better. It is an advantage for

both teachers and for students. Of course, there is always the possibility that the

students end up using their cell phones for the wrong things, such as texting their

friends in class or looking at webpages they shouldn’t be during class hours. But

teachers and students would have to write an agreement in order to establish the

boundaries of the usage of the cell phones. All in all, I truly think that phones should not

be banned, but actually promoted. They are a key aspect of modern day society and

youth.
