2. Definition of Networking
A computer network is a collection of computers and
other hardware interconnected by communication
channels that allow sharing of resources and information.
Where at least one process in one device is able to
send/receive data to/from at least one process residing in
a remote device, then the two devices are said to be in a
network.
More than one computer interconnected through a
communication medium for information interchange is
called a computer network.
3. Definition of Networking
A network consists of two or more computers that are
linked in order to share resources (such as printers and CD-
ROMs), exchange files, or allow electronic
communications.
A network can be loosely defined as a collection of two or
more computers that have some sort of communication
path between them.
A simple collection of computers at one location that
have been tied together using a particular connectivity
medium
4. Definition of Networking
A computer network is simply two or more
computers connected together so they can
exchange information.
A small network can be as simple as two
computers linked together by a single cable.
A network is a way to get “stuff” between 2
or more “things”
5. History of Networking
A network is a group of devices connected to
each other
If at least one process in one device is able to
send/receive data to/from another device,
then the two devices are said to be in a
network
Networking emerged because of two main
reasons:
1) Need for Data Communications
2) High Cost of Hardware
6. Why Network Computers?
File Sharing. Networking computers makes it easy
for the users on the network to share data files.
Hardware Sharing. Users can share devices such
as printers, CD-ROMS drives and hard drives.
Program Sharing. Applications such as
spreadsheets and word processors can be run
over the network.
User Communication.
Multiplayer Gaming
7. Types of Networking
Depending on one’s perspective, we can
classify networks in different ways
Computer networks can be categorized
by:
1) Transmission media
2) Range
3) Functional relationship
4) Topology
14. Transmission Media
Transmission Media are the Physical Path
or Atmospheric Paths that signals follow
They are usually classified into two
categories:
1) Guided / Wired
2) Unguided / Wireless
17. IP Addressing
An IP address is assigned to every
computer on an Ethernet network
Like the street address for your home,
an IP address identifies network
computers.
18. IP Addressing
An IP address is formatted as a series of
four values separated by periods:
192.168.0.1
Each value ranges from 0 through 255.
Editor's Notes
#2:A network can be defined as two or more computers connected together in such a way that they can share resources.
The purpose of a network is to share resources.
Networking
-is the term that describes the processes involved in designing, implementing, upgrading, managing and otherwise working with networks and network technologies.
#15:Coaxial Cable is used for broadcast television and satellite signals
Fiber Optics are used most often as a means to transmit light between the two ends of the fiber where they permit transmission over longer distance and at higher bandwidths.
#16:PDA uses Radio.Cellular Phones uses Radio. Satellite Television
How does your phone or receive text messages or calls? It is talking to its cell phone tower over a pathway called a control channel. When you call with your friend on your cellphone, your phone converts your voice into an electrical signal, which is then transmitted via radio waves to the nearest cell tower. The network of cell towers then relays the radio wave to your friends cell phone, which converts it into an electrical signal and then back to your phone. In the basic form, a cellphone works just like a walkie-talkie.
Are SMS stored on the network service providers servers? Yes
How does ShareIT transfer data? Does it use mobile data?
it uses ad hoc connection, mobile devices creates its own wifi network so the sending normally host the network and receiving device try to connect to the same network.
#17:It is a numerical label assigned to each device participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication.
#18:How IP address work? When your computer or device sends a request, like a search on Google, it tags the request with your IP address. That way Google knows where to send the response.
How Google uses your IP Address?
Your IP address is usually based on a real-world location, so Google might use your IP address to guess where you are. For examlple, Google could use your IP address to give you weather forecast.
