Instant messaging, ICQ, and IRC are three commonly used types of internet chatting. Instant messaging allows private or group chats between users, with AOL Instant Messenger being a popular platform. ICQ assigns unique user numbers for identification and communication between two or more users. IRC is designed for group discussion in channels but also allows private chats, running on separate networks like Undernet, EFnet, and DALnet.

- 2. CHATTING On the Internet, chatting is talking to other people who are using the Internet at the same time you are. Usually, this “talking” is the exchange of typed-in messages requiring one site as the repository for the messages (or “chat site”) and a group of users who take part from anywhere on the Internet.
- 3. In some cases, a private chat can be arranged between two parties who meet initially in a group chat. There are three commonly used types of chat. They are Instant Messaging ICQ, and IRC. CHATTING
- 4. INSTANT MESSAGING Instant messaging (IM) is one of the most popular forms of chat. most of the time, instant messaging (IM’ing) is just between two people ,although most IM softer can handle group chats(with 3 or more people.)
- 5. when you first start out IM’ing, you have to choose a name that people see you as. This name is commonly referred to as a nick (as in nick name) and is sometimes called a handle. The most popular form of IM is AOL instant messenger. AOL stands for American online. INSTANT MESSAGING
- 6. ICQ (“I seek you”) ICQ is an extremely useful chatting program. it allows you to message (chat),send files, send URLs, and more to anyone else with ICQ. When an user download ICQ (which is free), he is assigned an ICQ number.
- 7. ICQ (“I seek you”) Two or more people using ICQ can have the same nickname, but no two people can have the same ICQ number. If you want to let someone contact you by ICQ, give them both your ICQ# and your nickname, so they won’taccidentally contact someone else with the same nickname by mistake
- 8. IRC (Internet relay chat) • IRC is a form of instant communication over the internet. • It is mainly designed for group (one-to-many) communication in discussion forums called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication.
