Chunking up and chunking down are techniques for analyzing systems from different perspectives. Chunking up involves taking a broader view by analyzing parts as a whole, examples as classes, and outcomes as behaviors. Chunking down goes into more detail by analyzing wholes as parts, classes as examples, and behaviors as outcomes. Both techniques should be used to formulate new condensed problem statements considering multiple viewpoints.
