Clontab is an Oracle E-Business Suite automation tool that allows DBAs to schedule and forget routine tasks like refreshes, patching, and instance start/stop operations. It automates the full refresh process including pre and post refresh steps. DBAs can register their Oracle E-Business Suite source and target instances with Clontab once, then schedule refresh and patching tasks to run on a defined schedule. This allows DBAs to focus on more important tasks rather than manual routine work.

- 13. How It worksClontab Server will be installed on a dedicated Linux server. Tool comes with Oracle XE database (free for distribution and free from license, until it reaches 4gb). Following are the important components of Clontab ServerOracle XE database installed as part of the Clontab server installation.

- 15. Clontab Daemon processesctmon – Watches database for picking tasks and submit to Engine.ctprmon – Monitors ctmon and restarts if needed.Register Sources, Targets (One time). Schedule the tasks. Clontab will take care of the rest. The Registration Process: This process is to collect the instance specific information. This is a one-time job, and needs to be run for Source & Target Oracle e-Business Suite instances. Registration also requires for Netapp filers, Oracle Single Sign-on servers if they are in use. All the required userids & passwords also need to be entered, which goes in to database repository. Clontab takes care of encrypting sensitive information like passwords wherever necessary.To eliminate lot of data entry at the time of registration, most of the data is collected by Clontab and displayed on the forms, DBA needs to check this information, modify if needed and then submit to Clontab repository database. During the registration process, DBAs can also add a list of custom scripts that needs to be run during the Refresh process. There are 3 types of scripts, Pre, Post and Random scripts. As name describes, these will be run at the beginning of refresh, end of refresh or during the refresh. The script types supported by Clontab are SQL, Shell, Perl. The UI also gives provision to collect information such as user names (with which a specific SQL script needs to be run) and arguments to be passed to the scripts. For script type Random, an additional drop down list ‘Run after Step’ is displayed, to pick at which step this script has to be run.
- 16. Scheduling the tasks: Once the one-time registration process for all the required components is done, DBAs can now start scheduling the tasks. In case of tasks which repeat on regular intervals, DBAs can also choose the repeat schedule.
