Introduction
 Highly dependent on ICT; however, there are some
challenges with the use of ICT.
 Financial, and infrastructure prohibit development
of reliable network communications, data centers,
and local ICT-related activities.
 Electricity power problems that are epileptic in
delivery and attract unbearably high bills.
 These have in turn creates a poor performance in
business and academic activities.

gg
Solutions
ICT alone cannot rectify the
challenges.
Cloud computing has become
an emerging new computing
paradigm for delivering
technology and computing
services (Mell & Grance, 2009).

Purpose (To Explore)
 The extent to which cloud computing
applications and services can be used
to help breach the digital divide that
currently exists among tertiary
institutions in Nigeria.
 The level of adoption and classroom
utilization, and some aspects of the
distinctiveness of cloud computing.
CClloouudd

gg
Arguments
 The challenges faced by educational
institutions in Nigeria regarding the use of
21st century technology tools CANNOT
be rectified through only the integration of
ICT.
 They can be rectified through the infusion
of cloud computing initiatives for learning,
teaching, data storage/backups, resource
sharing, and management of resources.

Common Cloud computing
examples
 Microsoft Office 365 (Microsoft SkyDrive in
the case of Office).
 Google Drive is a pure cloud computing
service, with all the apps and storage
found online.
 Apple iCloud's service is primarily used for
online storage and synchronization of mail,
contacts, and calendar.
 Hybrid services like Dropbox and
SugarSync work in the cloud because they
store a synched version of files online/files
with local storage.
Efforts at leveraging of Cloud computing
framework for integration in Nigerian Universities

gg
 Ugwoke, Okafor, Onwusuru, and
Udeze, (2014) observed that the
fundamental problems of tertiary
institutions in Nigeria stems from lack
of foresight and expertise in the usage
of 21st century ICT models and
frameworks.
 They therefore argued that the near
collapse of educational institutions in
Nigeria can be revamped through the
infusion of cloud computing initiatives.

gg
Utilization of Cloud computing
 Enables wise and strategic use of technology
that significantly reduces the cost.
 Provides resources and capabilities of IT via
services offered by Cloud Service Provider (Ajith
& Hemalatha 2012).
 It has various characteristics as shared
infrastructure, self-service, pay-per use model,
dynamic, virtualized, elastic and scalable.
 Benefitted where lots of collaboration and
safety of data is needed.

Practical Application of Cloud Computing
 Network Teaching Platform
 Reduction in Computing Resources
 Collaboration with Colleagues and
Experts Globally
 Easily Accessible
 Support Teachers in Professional
Development
 Reduction on the Use of Electricity
 Reduction of Expenses
