The alphabet originated around 2000 BC and evolved into the Phoenician, Greek, and Roman alphabets. The development of illuminated manuscripts and the printing press with movable type advanced communication. Typography evolved through the Renaissance, Baroque, and Enlightenment periods. Scientific illustration advanced understanding in areas like anatomy and engineering. Maps and encyclopedias also spread knowledge.
