& ITS ELEMENTS
WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?
The word communication is derived
from the Latin word: ‘Communis’
means ‘to share’.
Communication is a Two-Way process
in which there is an exchange of
Information towards a mutually
accepted direction using either
spoken or written mode of language
that accompanies gestures, symbols,
body language and illustrations.
There are Five Elements of Communication:
1. Sender
2. Receiver
3. Message
4. Medium
5. Feedback
SENDER
The Sender encodes an idea and transmits it to the
receiver.
ENCODING
Sender has an idea
Sender Selects Appropriate
Words
Sender arranges it in
proper sentence structure
Sender Conveys message to
receiver
RECEIVER
The Receiver decodes the meaning of the message
transmitted by the Sender and tries to understand the
significance of the message
DECODING
Decodes the Meaning of
the Words
Decodes the meaning of
the sentences
Tries to understand the
significance of the message
Message
It may be defined as the idea that is encoded by the
sender either by words, expression and/or written
materials.
Medium
It is the channel or the pathway for the message to
travel from the sender to the receiver.

Feedback
It is the most important element of Communication. Feedback can be defined
as the perceived idea of the original message transmitted by the sender to the
receiver. Without a feedback, the communication remains incomplete
