CONSTRUCTING OBJECTIVE TYPE
AND ESSAY TYPE TEST ITEMS
Sub Topics
 Objective type test
 Subjective type test
 Comparison between objective and subjective
 Alternative response test
 Maching Exercise
 Multiple Choice items
 Advantages of Multiple Choice items
 Disadvantages of Multiple Choice items
 Short Answer type items
 Structured essay type items
OBJECTIVE TYPE TEST
 Objective test items are items that can be objectively
scored items on which person select a response from
list of options.
 Objective type test are highly structured written test that
requires the examinee to supply a word or two or to
select the correct answer from a number of alternatives.
SUBJECTIVE TYPE TEST
 Subjective is test in which the student give answer in detail.
 Subjective type test are also called essay type test.
TEST
 Test is the tool which help in measuring student learning as
well as teacher teaching.
 There are two types of subjective exam:
 Restricted
 Extended
COMPARISON
Objective type
• High degree of objectively.
• More reliability.
• Higher validity.
• Economical in reading and
scoring while expensive
and making.
• Effective even in large
group.
Subjective type
• Lacks objectively.
• Lesser reliability.
• Lesser validity.
• Expensive in reading and
scoring while economical
in making.
• Effective in small group.
ALTERNATIVE RESPONSE TEST
 The Alternative response item consist of declarative
statement which allows students to choose between
two comparable answer one is correct and other is
wrong.
 A test where in there are only two possible answers
to the question.
 The true or false format of alternative response type.
 Variations on the true or false format include yes-
no,agree-disagree, and right or wrong.
MACHING EXERCISE
 Provides students with a fun engaged way to learn.
 It gives students opportunity to learn object.
 This is an individual or paired activity.
 Students have finished “set” work and are waiting
for others complete.
MULTIPLE CHOICE ITEMS
 Multiple choice is a form of an objective assessment in
which respondents are asked to select the only correct
answer out of the choices from a list.
 This type consists of a stem followed by several true or
false statements.
 The candidate is to determine whether or not each of the
four statements which follows is true or false.
ADVANTAGES OF MULTIPLE CHOICE ITEMS
 Allow more adequate sampling of content.
 Tend to more effectively structure the problem to be
addressed.
 Items can be more efficiently and reliably scored than
supply items.
 Different response alternatives can provide diagnostic
feedback (item analysis).
 Items can be constructed to address various levels of
cognitive complexity.
DISADVANTAGES OF MULTIPLE CHOICE ITEMS
 Another disadvantage of multiple choice items is
possible ambiguity in the examince’s interpretation of
the item.
 The term “multiple guess” has been used to describe
this scenario because test takers may attempt to guess
rather then determine the correct answer.
SHORT ANSWER TYPE ITEMS
 Create A Solid Paragraph.
 Openning Sentence that rewards the question with
a short answer.
 Second sentence should be a explain the answer.
 Third sentence should be an example.
 Last sentence should wrap the answer up and
conclude your answer.
STRUCTURED ESSAY TYPE ITEMS
 Essay test is a test that requires the student.
 Structure a rather long written response up to
several paragraphs.
 Assess the ability to express oneself in writing.
 Measure the knowledge of factual information.
