3. General criteria for Apheresis Donor
1. Donor undergoing occasional apheresis must
meet the same criteria as that for whole blood
donation
2. Preferably repeat donor
3. Written consent
4. Venous access
5. TTD testing
6. Test for Hb ,ABO,Rh group & other Abs
4. Donor undergoing serial apheresis:
1. Interval between two procedures shd be at least 48
hrs & loss of RBCs shd not exceed 25 ml per week
2. If donors RBCs could not be reinfused / or if he
donates whole blood 12 wks shd elapse before
susequent apheresis
3. Careful monitoring of weight(>= 60 kg), blood cell
count, serum protein levels & quantitation of Igs is
required
5. Platepheresis
Criteria for donor selection:
1. Aspirin within 36 hrs deferred
2. HLA matched donors- platelets can be collected from
donors who don’t meet the requirement ,if the component
is of particular value to the patient
3. At least 48 hrs interval between procedures
max 2 times a week or 24 times a year
4. PC not reqd before the 1st
procedure or if interval between
procedures is at least 4 wks
5. If plateletpheresis is more frequent than once every 4
wks, PC shd be done & must be > 150,000/ul
6. Some advocate PC before all plateletpheresis
6. Platepheresis
Portion of donor’s platelets & some plasma is
removed with return of donors RBCs,WBCs, &
remaining plasma
Can be stored for 5 days
