The paper presents a novel method for music information retrieval (MIR) by extracting approximate sequential patterns from monophonic music objects, focusing on the main melody. This involves the representation of the main melody as a sequence of notes, identifying exact repeating patterns using suffix trees, and extracting approximate patterns that allow for minor variations. The methodology is tested on real-world data from the 'Raga Surabhi' Indian Carnatic music portal, showing satisfactory results.
