Editor's Notes

  • #3: Simply, learning is the process of moving from not knowing to knowing. The ‘social’ aspect of the learning relies upon human interaction. Therefore, social learning is constructed from conversations and participation within a CoP. It is about ‘how’ members learn, rather than the content or ‘what’ they learn.
  • #4: The CoP supports the apprentice by interacting regularly, sharing tales and experiences. Social Learning within a community is ‘learning about a subject’ as well as ‘learning to be a full participant’. The shared passion and the interaction engages the learner and enables them to acquire deep knowledge about a subject and the ability to participate in the community through productive enquiry and social interaction group of people....learn to do it better through interaction” [5]. Both these definitions exploit the idea of social interaction and people, the very foundations of social learning
  • #6: Institutional & Individual Epistemological & Technological & Training Learning can take place independently of physical distance between students and teachers Teachers face the challenge of meeting learner expectations at a distance as highlighted by Cantelon; “most of higher education will take place off-campus through technological methods of delivery” [6]. Distance learning is already a part of everyday life for most educational institutions, recognizing the problems and addressing them will be critical to the success of distance learning in the future, particularly as demand increase
  • #9: One of the main advantages of a CoP aside from the potential social learning, is the ‘community’ itself. The community will help reduce the problems of isolation and alienation by bringing together students enabling them to share and discuss their concerns. Thus, a CoP provides the students with a highly interactive space to develop electronic connectedness. This connectedness allows the students to form relationships, interact socially and generally create the ‘scholarly community’ that has reportedly been lacking in many of the distance programs delivered to date. he facilitation of communication and social interaction will also help to minimize the perceived lack of contact or feedback as the CoP will restore the communication link CoP facilitate social learning as a result of the active participation and community members can learn from interacting and observing other people. As a student, one is likely to pick up valuable knowledge from discussing the subject with friends as well as they could from sitting through hours of lectures. Participation is the process of being active in the practice of the community and constructing identities in relation to these communities
  • #10: Teacher professional development is no longer synonymous with acquiring new teaching techniques, it is rather about starting new processes as to engage with new forms of learning, reflected in the practice of teaching
  • #11: Gone Digital? Teacher professional development is no longer synonymous with acquiring new teaching techniques, it is rather about starting new processes as to engage with new forms of learning, reflected in the practice of teaching Providing meaningful experiences With and without technology
  • #13: it takes time to find our feet .... Talk about old fashion curriculum standardized evaluation
  • #14: What do we mean by it? A LMS? a replication of the classroom traditional practice
  • #17: who the webheads are what they do
  • #18: Fostering Learning with others
  • #19: providing new opportunities
