Unit aim 
This unit will help with creating space. 
Learning outcomes 
There are three learning outcomes to this unit. The learner will be able to: 
1.Individually, unit and group creating space 
2. Individually, unit and group maintaining space 
3. Individually, unit and group exploiting space

Group Task 1 
• In groups discuss what you already know about creating space 
• Record it on flip charts or your note books 
• Give examples of how players can create space

Look how they make the pitch wide and long

Group Task 2 
• Record all technical information for Creating Space 
• Where possible try to put this in a logical order for coaching players

‘Don’t make it too easy’

FA Technical Detail 
• Dynamic movement to make pitch wide and long 
• Speed of movement to create space as soon as you have won 
back possession of the ball 
• Awareness of what is around you, 
• Recognition of spatial awareness 
• Being able to exploit the space

Group Task 3 
• Imagine you are a technical team of coaches 
• Your task it to design a technical practice (unopposed) coaching session 
moving into a skill practice (opposed) 
• Once you have completed this you will need to present it to the 
technical director for feedback 
• Think of the players, space, equipment needs. 
• The session should last 20 minutes

Session Plan Creating Space 
Organisation 
• Set up 25 x 25 area 
• Yellows will play the ball into the red 
team who will try and switch the ball to 
either player in zone 3 or 4 
• If the pass is a success then play across 
to the opposite corner 
Key Factors 
• Timing to come and receive off the 
outside player 
• Receiving opened out on the back foot 
• Choice on technique to switch the play 
early

Group Task 4 
• As part of the FA’s Long Term Player Development coaches are 
encouraged to help players develop in the four corners of development 
• Discuss and record some of the areas you as coaches would like to 
develop in each corner 
• Physical
