This document summarizes the topics that will be covered in the first part of an experimental methods course in physics at UNAM. It includes: basic instrumentation concepts like vacuum systems, electronics, lasers, and design tools; laser fundamentals such as gain media, resonator cavities, and laser types; and an introduction to project selection for the semester. Students will learn about instrumentation like vacuum pumps, pressure transducers, and advanced electronics. Laser concepts covered are oscillation threshold, gain media types including semiconductors, crystals, gases and their energy levels. Project selection occurs at the end of the introductory topics.
