Editor's Notes

  • #4: Industrial Scientific (“ISC”) is the leading provider of Gas Detection devices and services. Our stated corporate vision is to End Death in the Workplace this Century. In 2007, 3 workers went on a maintenance run near the end of the day on a Friday. The first person entered a utility vault and was overcome by gas. A second went in to help and was also overcome. The third and last person went in and was also overcome. All three died. The best gas detection technology we have to offer was rendered useless as all three of their gas detectors were sitting on the seat of the truck. From this, ISC learned 3 things The best PPE in the world is easily defeated as people will always find a way to put themselves at risk Gas detection and PPE alone cannot help us meet our vision Enabling workers and leaders to identify and correct at-risk conditions and behaviors is the best strategy towards eliminating death in the workplace In 2008 ISC purchased DBO2 to help fulfill this vision
