Admin Track Speakers’ Advice: Plan
Write out your goal. This may sound
basic, but doing this first and foremost
is the foundation stone for making the
most of Dreamforce. It will shape how
you attend the event and plan what
you do day to day hour by hour. You
will stay focussed and discover a lot
more.
Accept that with +1000 sessions and
opportunities for learning, that you
simply can't do it all. Focus on what's
most important for you. Attend at
least one roadmap course and don't
forget to have fun!
Be selective with what you see and
participate in - give yourself the time
to really take in a few topics in depth.
Take time in between sessions to
digest what you're learning. If you
spread yourself too thin, you'll feel
frantic and you're less likely to have
any key learnings really "stick"!
Focus on the feature or Cloud that
excites you, then inhale knowledge,
stories, ideas and solutions in that area
on your path to becoming a Subject
Matter Expert (SME) in that discipline
or product. Find your passion and
grow it into a career.
Register for the presentations that
aren't filmed such as the Road Map
Sessions, you can catch others online
afterwards. Then when you need a
break, grab a spot by the Admin
Theater and take in the great content
(also not filmed).
What’s your best advice for Admin attendees?
Admin Track Speakers’ Advice: Connect
Connect with presenters on social and
in the Community. Don't be afraid to
ask follow up questions days/weeks/
months after Dreamforce.
Be open and introduce yourself to
someone you don't know. Ask them
about their journey and learn from
their experience. Sounds simple, but
those interactions helped me learn the
most.
Be open to moments. Whether
connecting with a stranger or
someone you have only known
online, be open to the connections
that happen at Dreamforce.
Make connections before & during
Dreamforce. The most valuable thing
for me has been the people in the
Salesforce ecosystem. I now have a
support system and friends from all
over the world, in various industries,
with different backgrounds. I can't say
enough good things about the
PEOPLE. Network!
Never just sit down in an empty row
and look at your phone before a
session. Show up 5 minutes early and
find someone to sit by that isn't
looking at their phone. Some of the
best connections you will make
happen right before and after.
Take time to stop and ask questions of
your fellow Admins! Regardless of
industry or number of users managed,
you'll find tips and tricks in every
corner of Dreamforce.
What’s your best advice for Admin attendees?
For Fun: #AwesomeAdmin Job Descriptions
Creative problem-solver who loves
working with all types of people and
finding solutions for their biggest work
challenges.
Magical creature that can "JUST" make
all things happen.
Business process interpreters who
recognize and translate business needs
(known and unknown) to provide
automated cloud based solutions built
on Salesforce.
A Salesforce Admin wears a utility belt,
can walk through fire, takes on any
challenge, and serves as an
ambassador to bring the company
together. Comfortable in any situation,
they will seek out opportunities and
develop solutions, despite every
opposition. A Salesforce Admin finds
purpose in enabling everyone around
them to have a greater impact.
As a Salesforce admin, you will have to
tame managers, feed sellers, enchant
end-users among other amazing things.
I am a Salesforce Administrator
because freakin' miracle worker is
not an official job title.
Open-minded, smart and Salesforce
addicted.
You'll be up late, in early, and often
asked to do the impossible. But,
you'll love every minute of it.
Observe. Collaborate. Learn. Think.
Build. Improve. Repeat.
If you could write the official #AwesomeAdmin job description, what would it be?
