Different Types of Engineering
An electrical engineer focuses on designing, maintaining and improving
products that are powered by or produce electricity
Sometimes, an electrical engineer will dedicate his or her time to a single
electrical product or type of product, such as motors, generators, wiring
or communications systems
Electrical engineering deals with electricity, electro-magnetism and
electronics
They are usually concerned with large-scale electrical systems such as
motor control and power transmission, as well as utilizing electricity to
transmit energy
Electrical engineers may work on a diverse range of technologies, from the
design of household appliances, lighting and wiring of buildings,
telecommunication systems, electrical power stations and satellite
communications

Computer engineers are involved in many hardware and software aspects of
computing, from the design of individual microprocessors, personal
computers, and supercomputers, to circuit design
This field of engineering not only focuses on how computer systems
themselves work, but also how they integrate into the larger picture
Computer software engineers develop, design, and test software
Most computer hardware engineers research, develop, design, and test
various computer equipment
Computer engineers are also suited for robotics research, which relies heavily
on using digital systems to control and monitor electrical systems
COMPUTER SCIENCE ENGINEERING
Larry Page and Sergey
Brin two successful
computer science
engineers are the CEO
and Co-Founder of
Google
Mark Zuckerberg, founder of
Facebook is also a successful
Computer Science Engineer
Software
Engineering
• The application of a systematic, disciplined, quantifiable
approach to the development, operation, and maintenance of
software, and the study of these approaches; that is, the
application of engineering and computer science to software.
Hardware
Engineering
• Designing, developing, and testing various computer
equipment. Can range from circuit boards and
microprocessors to routers.
Network
Engineering
• Designing, deploying and maintaining computer networks,
such as corporate networks or the internet.
Designing chemical plant and equipment configuration
Chemical reaction engineers construct models for reactor analysis
and design using laboratory data and physical parameters
Manufacturing new molecules and biomolecules
Chemical engineering design concerns the creation of plans,
specification, and economic analyses for new plants or plant
modifications
Quality maintenance in medicine factories
CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

A chemical industry
Biomolecular Engineering
• Focuses on the manufacturing
of biomolecules
Molecular Engineering
• Focuses on the manufacturing
of molecules.
Materials Engineering
• Involves properties of matter
(material) and its applications
to engineering
Process Engineering
• Focuses on the design,
operation, control, and
optimization of chemical
processes
CHEMICAL
ENGINEERING
Civil engineers design and build bridges, roads, railways, and tunnels
They design and build tall structures and large buildings such as multi-
storey car parks, train stations, and even the olympic stadium
Ensuring best performance from built structures
Without civil engineers we wouldn’t have a constant supply of clean
water, or sustainable energy to help us save our planet
Civil engineering is a wide ranging profession, including several separate
specialized sub-disciplines, its history is linked to knowledge of structures,
materials science, geography, geology, soils, hydrology, environment,
mechanics and other fields

MATERIAL
STRUCTURAL
Responsible for developing a wide range of products and systems for
example, space shuttle vehicles, aircraft of all sizes and shapes, automobiles,
turbines, pumps, power plants, and factories
Research, testing manufacturing, operations, marketing, and
administration are some other key activities
Their work include mechanics, energy transfer and conversion, design
and manufacturing, and the engineering sciences
Refrigeration, microwave cooking, high-fidelity sound reproduction,
transportation, communication are affordable largely because
mechanical engineers worked together to make it happen
Virtually any machine or process you can think of has benefited from the
influence of a mechanical engineer

BRANCHES OF MECHANICAL
ENGINEERING
Acoustical
Engineering
• Concerns the
manipulation and
control of
vibration,
especially
vibration isolation
and the reduction
of unwanted
sounds
Manufacturing
Engineering
• Concerns dealing
with different
manufacturing
practices and the
research and
development of
systems,
processes,
machines, tools
and equipment.
Thermal
Engineering
• Concerns heating
or cooling of
processes,
equipment, or
enclosed
environments
Vehicle
Engineering
• The design,
manufacture and
operation of the
systems and
equipment that
propel and control
vehicles
Industrial
Engineering
• Industrial
engineering is a
branch of
engineering
dealing with the
optimization of
complex
processes or
systems
Automotive
Naval
Aerospace
Industrial engineers figure out ways to do things better. They engineer
processes and systems that improve quality and productivity
They make significant contributions to their employers by saving money
while making the workplace better for fellow workers
In addition to manufacturing, industrial engineers apply their skills in a
variety of settings
A production engineer typically is involved in the production and
manufacturing process and must be knowledgeable about the entire
process
Many people are misled by the term “industrial engineer.” The “industrial”
does not mean just manufacturing. It encompasses service industries as well
INDUSTRIAL AND PRODUCTION

Production
Engineering
Industrial engineers
has a lot do with
maintaining machines
in industries
Industrial and production
engineers must maintain a
good relationship with the
workers of the industry
• The ability to plan the practices of manufacturing, to research
and develop the tool, processes, machines and equipment, and
to integrate the facilities and systems for producing quality
products with optimal expenditure.
Manufacturing
Engineering
• The process of assuring the availability of suitable
components required to manufacture a product.
Component
Engineering
• Focuses on issues such as logistics, the coordination of
different teams, automatic control of machinery for
complex engineering projects.
Systems
Engineering
• The planning and management of construction projects
Construction
Engineering
• The design and analysis of logistical and resource systems,
product design, and development.
Textile
Engineering
• Assuring that a life-critical system behaves as needed even
when pieces fail.
Safety
Engineering
• Optimizing asset maintenance to minimize whole of life
cost.
