This document summarizes a workshop series on differentiated instruction and understanding by design. The workshops will be held at Barrett Elementary School and focus on pre-assessing students to inform instruction, understanding the difference between surface and in-depth differentiation, and developing unit pre-assessments and lesson plans. The agenda for the first workshop includes an overview of understanding by design, a self-assessment activity, a discussion of the big picture of differentiation, and time for participants to work on pre-assessments and planning.
