- 1. Graduation by Kanye West Daniel Javelosa
- 2. Front Cover • The writing in the front are very bright and eye catching. It does this by utilising the colours at a different shade or tint. This makes the album instantly noticeable and startling as a result more people will be enticed to pick it up in the store shelves and listen to the content of the album. • The text which is most visible is “KanYeWest GRADUATION”, which is located at the top centre of the album . Also, a noticeable feature of the text is how the artist name is written differently with “Y” in “Kanye” being a capital letter instead of a lower case. • The album is titled “GRADUATION” which is all in capital letters in the cover. This was done to emphasize that it was the title. In addition, there is a synergy between the title and the album artwork as one can see individuals throwing their mortarboard in the air which implies that they have graduated from school. • Kanye’s music is Hip Hop; which the album cover exemplifies as the music is often lively, flamboyant and interesting. As seen by the plethora mixture of bright coloured shapes. • Towards the bottom left of the cover there is a forewarning in black and white “PARENTAL ADVISORY: EXPLICIT CONTENT”, this was inscribed to warn those that there is mature content in the album and perhaps this might not be suitable to a younger audience in juxtapose with the cover which entices them.
- 3. Back Cover • The back cover artwork is the exact same as the front cover bar the angle as a result one can see the link between the front and back covers. The back shows the rear of the bear but the front cover is different to this, it displays its face. • The songs are displayed on the back cover along with the names of the individuals and companies that have contributed to the creation of the album such as the artist who illustrated the artwork , the company which distributes the music and the producer that has helped to create the tune. • A bar code is seen on the bottom left hand side of the back cover near the artist name and album title which towards the top left of it. The artist name and album is not just on the left but also on the right hand side . Spine • The spine contains once again the artist and album name alongside the record company “Roc-A-Fella” beside the album number which is located on the left hand side.
- 4. Inside panes • The inside is more artwork by the artist Takashi Murakami who sketched the front and back covers. • It contains the pocket for the CD to go into for protection as there is no plastic holder which albums typically have hence the album is made entirely out of paper except the CD. • The CD itself has an artwork of a bear engraved in it which creates a sense of continuity as there is collaboration of more than one merchandise.
