This meta-analysis reviews 51 studies to assess the effectiveness of online digital literacy practices using social media in higher education, involving 4,630 participants. The findings reveal a moderately positive impact on learning outcomes with a weighted average effect size of g+ = 0.315, indicating that students benefit more from engaging in digital literacy practices compared to traditional methods. Furthermore, factors such as the conceptualization of tools and the type of engagement (prosuming vs. consuming) significantly moderate learning outcomes.
