Tips for Working with a Digital Camera The Rule of Thirds – Photo Composition Focus Lock Maximizing your battery 3 Steps To Better Digital Prints Storing Digital Photos Caring for your Camera
Picture Composition The Rule of Thirds
Compositional rule known as the "Rule Of Thirds" Divide the viewfinder into thirds—both horizontal and vertical. Where the lines intersect are the "power spots" Place your subjects as close as possible to the line intersections. secret of the pros - Don't center the subject! (Shoot subject off center)

Focus on the subject in the foreground
Reframe your picture
Now you have a picture that is focused on the foreground
Making Your Camera Battery Last Longer Use rechargeable batteries Keep extra batteries with you at all times Use less LCD monitor Avoid excessive playback Keep your batteries warm Recharge your batteries right before using them
3 Steps To Better Digital Prints Watch the resolution - general guideline, try to keep your printer resolution between 200-300 DPI Use Good Paper - When printing photos, use a "photo" paper Printer Settings – set your printer properties
Setting Printer Properties
Main Property Settings Remember to experiment with these settings till you get the quality prints you want! Note: Once you find the appropriate settings write them down.
Storing Digital Photos First Choice - external USB drives USB drives are faster than burning to CD, and tend to be more reliable. Plus, you can plug the drive in, edit your photos, and resave since it acts like a regular drive. Secondary Back Up on CDs Back up your images onto CD, then store them in a cool, dark, dry , and safe location. I'd also re-backup everything at least once a year. CDs wear out and if they get scratch you will not be able to recovery any photos off of them.
