Direct teaching is a systematic instructional method where the teacher must have a strong command of the subject matter being taught. The teacher ensures the content is logically organized and that students have the necessary prerequisites. It is effective for teaching specific facts and basic skills but may not be as effective for higher-order thinking. Direct instruction is based on behavioral learning principles and helps increase academic learning time by keeping students engaged in the lesson. The main purpose of direct teaching was to help disadvantaged public schools.
