This document provides information about an upcoming documentary interview skills workshop. Students will have the opportunity to practice interview techniques by conducting short interviews with the instructor on self-selected topics. They will be given tips for effective interviewing and have their interviews critiqued in class. Students are tasked with choosing an interview topic and developing questions to use during the in-class practice interviews next week.

- 2. Interviews Interviews are integral to a documentary, most of you will be conducting some sort of interview within your piece. If you are not using interviews the skills you will learn here (framing, pacing etc..) will still help you with your films
- 3. Handout 14 tips for interviews! Read them through, know them. You will need to consider all of these things before you shoot your scene.
- 4. Task for Today Next Thursday I will be your interview subject to practice on. You can interview me on a topic of your choosing, I have know the topic first. You do not have to tell me the questions. You have 5 minutes to interview me, not including 5 minutes of shot set up time. We will then watch the footage back as a class and critique the results. You should start to come up with a topic and a list of questions today. Tomorrow we will look at framing and using the equipment we have.
